Who will be the Ullr Girl for 2008?

In old Scandinavian myth, Ullr ("glory") was the god of justice and dueling, but was most well know for his beauty and mastery of skiing. Legend has it, that as the god of all things ridden on snow, Ullr was not only a sick rider, but had the passion, confidence and attitude befitting a Norse god as well. Last year we asked ourselves, "what if Ullr was a girl? What would she be like?" Then we spent the entire winter looking for her – the ultimate mountain woman. In the end, over 400 kick ass skiers and riders from every discipline – big mountain, park & pipe, boarder x, you name it – came out of the woodwork and threw their hats in the ring for a chance to compete in both on- and off-mountain events for the grand prize of $25,000 and the Ullr crown (er...Viking helmet). 

 

This year, we're searching again. The criteria is the same – we're looking on this site for chicks who can rip, but also who can demonstrate their passion for the mountains better than anyone else. Any girl can enter by adding a profile but only four will be chosen to receive a trip to compete in the Finals, in Whistler, during the 2008 Telus World Ski and Snowboard Festival, the $25,000 grand prize hasn't changed either. Cha-ching.

What's up for grabs?

Up to 12 of the ski and snowboard industry’s top pros will get invited to compete in the finals, but we want to make sure any girl out there can win this thing. Plus, we have an extra 4 spots up for grabs to compete in the Finals, we’ll even fly you here and put you up for the week. The four girls awarded the trips get a minimum seven day, six night trip to Whistler to compete in the Finals from April 11-20.  Including Air fare, return ground transportation from Vancouver International to Whistler, accommodation, VIP passes to the TWSSF and Whistler Blackcomb lift tickets for the duration of the Finals are all part of the package. Plus you get to compete for the $25,000 and the 2008 Ullr Crown.

 

How do you get one of these 4 select spots?

Impress the judges. We’ve got a pretty cool panel of looking for 4 worthy contestants to compete in the finals. The judges want to see you demonstrate your passion for skiing or riding, update your page regularly, rate the other postings on this site and prove to the judges you can rip and belong in the comp. Make it fun, crazy, creative, smart and endearing. We want to see it all. Entertain us. Surprise us. And share this site with your friends so they can cheer you on. On February 29, our judges will choose four finalists – two skiers and two riders – to join 12 other invited athletes to compete in the "If Ullr Was a Girl" Finals at the 2008 Telus World Ski and Snowboard Festival.

 

The Finals. The "If Ullr Was A Girl" Finals are made up of three on-mountain events – one Big Mountain Event, a Jib-Style Event, a Superpipe Event and a single off-mountain event –  Ullr Unleashed – to show off their creative abilities and love of the mountains. The winner of the Finals takes home the $25,000 and the Ullr crown.

 

What's new?

This year, we've reworked the ifullrwasagirl.com to let you rate the contestant's video and photo posts, but we've scrapped the voting component. Instead, we've pulled together a panel of expert and neutral judges to check out what gets posted up and thrown down over the next few months here on the site. These judges will choose the four girls most deserving of a trip to Whistler to compete in the Finals. We've also added a superpipe event to round out the Finals.
